Not since Alien vs Predator has a franchise mash-up made us come over as giggly and girly as this one.
Think about it. Star Trek: The Next Generation and Doctor Who, two of the all-time most loved, grandest Sci Fi franchises EVER!
Such deep and volatile material combined could result in anything!
The complete reversal of the Space-Time continuum.
Romulans and Vulcans living together in harmonious and state-sanctioned mixed marriages.
A new form of fan – the Trekovian – multiplying to engulf the planet.
These are just some of the predicted outcomes being bandied about by scientists after IDW Publishing’s recent announcement that in conjunction with BBC Worldwide Consumer Products and CBS Consumer Products, they will be bringing Doctor Who and the crew of the Star Ship Enterprise together in a comic book entitled Star Trek: The Next Generation/Doctor Who: Assimilation2.
And the “2” isn’t just a two, man, it’s, like, Assimilation SQUARED!
But who could possibly stand against a duo as dynamic as the Doctor and Picard?

Ever heard of a little hive mind of cybernetically-enhanced humanoid drones of multiple species called the Borg?

How about a race of cybernetically augmented humanoids called the Cybermen?
That’s right, these two master-races will form an unholy alliance resulting in potential disaster for all humanity. Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise will find themselves joining forces with the Doctor and his companions to fight off the cybernetic threat as the fate of the galaxy hangs in the balance.
This eight-issue series will be written by Scott and David Tipton, the authors of critically acclaimed Star Trek: Infestation, with a helping hand from longtime Doctor Who writer Tony Lee, and will feature fully painted artwork by J.K. Woodward (Fallen Angel).
With a team like that panicked butterflies about loyalty to universes are soon calmed.
The IDW press release encourages fans to “ask their retailers about the rare wraparound photo cover. Plus, artist Joe Corroney (Star Trek Ongoing) will provide a variant cover featuring the Doctor and friends aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise.”
Comic Book Guy, watch out. I'm coming in.
STAR TREK TNG/DOCTOR WHO: ASSIMILATION2 ($3.99, 32 pages, full color) will be available in stores in May 2012.
