Yes, exorcists are real, and they help out on Hollywood movies.
I had a fascinating chat with the Reverend Bob Larson, who has been sharing his expertise in exorcisms with the good people who created 'The Devil Inside'.
He spoke of his 100% belief in the devil as a tangible evil and the proof that comes with performing 'fifteen exorcisms a day', which seems like a very busy and scary schedule.
The idea that people 'just snap' to him is proof of demonic possession. He seems like such a nice guy? Well, so says Reverend Bob, he was. And then he was possessed.
Reverend Bob has been chatting about the new film, 'The Devil Inside', which opens in Australia on March 1. It's already screened in the US, and has raked in the cash, with audiences freaked out by it's 'scientific' approach to the supernatural.
The film's controversial and unusual ending has also garnered much debate.
Reverend Bob says that 'pupil dilation is one of the key signs' to detecting possession by a demon, and listed 'superhuman strength, - I've seen small girls throw guys clear across a room' as another indicator of the supernatural amongst us, right here, right now. Levitation - yes. Speaking in languages that the person couldn't know- yes. He also pointed out that 'psychological disorders are also a sign of demonic possession', which means the blurring of the lines between supernatural activity and mental illness makes it tough for today's exorcist. He claims to have a hundred exorcism teams worldwide, and talks of 'thousands' of exorcisms.
He is of the firm opinion that The Devil exists.
Reverend Bob has been fighting Satan since the 80's and 90's, working on the dangers of of Satanism in America on his radio show and since then, his ministry, that now focuses on exorcisms and offers counselling to people with problems of self-mutilation, multiple personality disorders, Satanic ritual abuse and molestation.
Chilling stuff.
So, if you weren't already a bit chilled by the idea of seeing 'The Devil Inside', have a listen to what Reverend Bob Larson has to say on the matter:
