Find out about Darth Plagueis - The Emperor's Master - In The All New Star Wars Novel
News Thursday, January 26 by Captain
If you want to find out who Darth Vader's father really is, you might want to read this book.
A new chapter in the expanded Star Wars universe has been unveiled with the release of Darth Plagueis – a Star Wars novel by renowned New York Times best-selling author James Luceno.
George Lucas himself worked closely with the author to make sure the story was deeply in line with his universe.
Darth Plagueis, if you're not familiar with the extended Star Wars universe lore, was born under the name of Hego Damask, and remembered as Darth Plagueis the Wise - technically, however, he was a Muun Dark Lord of the Sith, heir to the lineage of Darth Bane and a master of midi-chlorian manipulation, who lived during the century leading up to the Invasion of Naboo.
Obsessed with eternal life, Plagueis experimented with ways to cheat death and create new life from the midi-chlorians.
He trained Darth Sidious (a.k.a. The Emperor) in the ways of the Sith and the dark side of the Force, whom he incited to take control of the galaxy and bring about an age of the Sith. Sidious, convinced that his master had outlived his usefulness, eventually killed the Muun in his sleep.
Star Wars-o-philes amongst you will be very familiar with the 'Tragedy of Darth Plagueis', but if you want a refresher, here’s what Palpatine had to say about him:
Here’s how the book describes itself:
"Darth Plagueis: one of the most brilliant Sith Lords who ever lived. Possessing power is all he desires. Losing it is the only thing he fears. As an apprentice, he embraces the ruthless ways of the Sith. And when the time is right, he destroys his Master - but vows never to suffer the same fate. For like no other disciple of the dark side, Darth Plagueis learns to command the ultimate power... over life and death.
Darth Sidious: Plagueis’s chosen apprentice. Under the guidance of his Master, he secretly studies the ways of the Sith, while publicly rising to power in the galactic government, first as Senator, then as Chancellor, and eventually as Emperor.
Darth Plagueis and Darth Sidious, Master and acolyte, target the galaxy for domination - and the Jedi Order for annihilation. But can they defy the merciless Sith tradition? Or will the desire of one to rule supreme, and the dream of the other to live forever, sow the seeds of their destruction?”
Filling in many of the events prior to those seen in The Phantom Menace, for Star Wars believers this novel will be a fascinating journey into the murky world of the Sith, and a welcome edition to the canon.
